Read what Bill Giles said about Brett Myers, fans, talk shows, the team and the front office? He's quoted at length today, and Inquirer columnist Phil Sheridan takes issue with some remarks by the best known of the Phillies limited partners. Bloggers are also weighing in. Here's a wide-ranging poll in which you can agree with Giles' views or disagree. You can also post your own comments as well.
To generalize that all the fans that call and listen to sports radio are negative gives the impression that at least some of the owners are not being realistic about the Phillies. The fans are ready to get behind a winning, World Series caliber team, but they have yet to produce one. That's all the fans want, what I want. The team wants to tell you something is green, when you know it's really blue. They say that the team isn't playing to it's potential, but when it has missed the playoffs since 1993, then you have to wonder if it ever will. Any sane human being will begin to doubts about the owners' potential to put a playoff team together.
ReplyDeleteAnother thing about Giles' statement about the Myers mess, if he was really trying to "help" his wife, why didn't the team just come out and say that after it became public? If she was being a belligerent drunk, then maybe some of her reported injuries may have been explained. But they waited, as they are apt to do, and now there is another black eye on the city.
This proves the Phillies, as an organization, from top to bottom, could care less about the fans.
ReplyDeleteAt this point, let the damn team go elsewhere. Maybe someplace where the fans are gullible enough to believe their pablum-puking lies.
The only way they'll truly understand the depth of the popular anger is to boycott them. Period! Don't watch them. Don't listen to them. And for God sakes, don't spend a dime going to the games. Maybe when their bottom line gets hit...they'll get it.
MYERS MUST GO!
MONTGOMERY MUST GO!
GILES MUST DIVEST!
Or the Phillies can go to Hell!
After discussing Myers, Giles was heard to say the following "One of our phillies employees said that they didn't see a team that has problems hitting with runners in scoring position, weak starting pitching, listless ownership, a lack of veteran leadership, and a manager with a death sentence, unfortunately, as is so often the case with Giles, he wasnt listening carefully and missed the qualifier that the team was the opposition
ReplyDelete"In this day and age, you can go from last place to first place easily in a year."
ReplyDeleteDidn't we already do this - '92 to '93 only to follow it up in '94 in last place? Seems like we've been there ver since....
